This is a Thursday night video, which means it will look at questions and topics related to neurodiversity hiring, neurodiversity, leadership, autism, or anything related to those topics.
Today’s topic is whether or not to disclose your disability on a job application. In the United States, demographic information is requested (gender, race, veteran status, and disability) to determine who is applying for jobs, whether or not discrimination is taking place, and in the case of veterans and disabled people, whether or not a tax credit can be offered.
The answer is “It depends”. For me, I have to disclose since there are web articles involving me, and I advocate for neurodivergent people. For many of you, the best answer may be “No” or “I choose not to disclose”. Often, a disabled person is disqualified right at the beginning of the job application process simply because they’re disabled. Some might use it as a way of getting around the fact that they’re not qualified, however, that does not mean that all disabled people are unqualified.
I will try to have new videos three times a week, on Monday (Main topic of week), Thursday (Questions And topics) and Saturday (Issues of interest or general discussion).
